Where the figures come from
Last updated 5 October 2026
The comparison on the sell page names four platforms. Every competitor's fee rule in it was checked on 20 September 2026 against that platform's own public pricing and help pages; the $10 examples are worked from those rules for a seller paid in US dollars. This lists, row by row, exactly where each number came from.

You keep from a $10 sale
- Bookstorez — $8.50 on Free, $8.80 on Creator, $8.90 on Pro. Our own fee: the plan's percentage (12%, 9% or 8%) plus 30¢ per sale, with card fees, tax handling and payouts included. Creator costs $19 a month and Pro $29 a month on top.
- Gumroad — $7.91. Gumroad's direct-sale fee is 10% + $0.50 per transaction plus standard card processing of 2.9% + $0.30: $1.00 + $0.50 + $0.29 + $0.30 = $2.09. gumroad.com/pricing and gumroad.com/help/article/66-gumroads-fees, checked 20 September 2026.
- Payhip — $8.91. Payhip's Free plan charges a 5% transaction fee plus the seller's own Stripe processing, 2.9% + $0.30 for a US card: $0.50 + $0.29 + $0.30 = $1.09. Payhip's paid plans take 2% ($29 a month) or 0% ($99 a month) instead of 5%. payhip.com/pricing, checked 20 September 2026.
- Etsy — $8.60. Etsy charges a $0.20 listing fee per sale, a 6.5% transaction fee and US payment processing of 3% + $0.25: $0.20 + $0.65 + $0.30 + $0.25 = $1.40. etsy.com/legal/fees and etsy.com/legal/etsy-payments, both checked 20 September 2026.
When their marketplace found the buyer
- Bookstorez — none. Bringing your own buyer or being found in the Bookstorez catalogue costs the same fee on every plan.
- Gumroad — 30%, so $7.00 of a $10 sale. Sales that come through Gumroad's Discover marketplace are charged a flat 30%, processing included, instead of the direct-sale rate. gumroad.com/pricing and gumroad.com/help/article/79-gumroad-discover, checked 20 September 2026.
- Payhip — none. "There is no additional fee for sales from the marketplace." help.payhip.com/article/307-marketplace, checked 20 September 2026.
- Etsy — 15% if Offsite Ads brought the buyer (12% once a shop passes $10,000 in trailing 12-month sales), on top of the standard fees, so $7.10 of a $10 sale. etsy.com/legal/fees, checked 20 September 2026.
